About John Kennedy Bailey Law

John founded John Kennedy Bailey Law in 2006 after working in a defense firm, at the West Virginia Supreme Court, and in a large plaintiff's firm.  Since 2007, JKB Law has been located in a pre-civil war home on Kanawha Boulevard between the State Capitol and downtown Charleston.

Educational Background

John received a B.A. in History from Yale University in 1990. During Junior year, John attended the Université Des Langues et Lettres in Grenoble, France.

After Yale, John attended the West Virginia University College of law on a merit scholarship, where he was an Articles Editor on the Law Review.

Before college, John attended public schools in Fairmont, West Virginia, where he was born.  John's family, including all of his grandparents and great-grandparents come from West Virginia, so John knows what its means to be from West Virginia (and he just might also be your cousin).

Work History
Believe it or not, John has always wanted to be a lawyer, and has a drawing from first grade to prove it.  John is also sort of a nerd, and as proof of this he earned a Golden Horseshoe in West Virginia history and a perfect score on the law school admissions test (LSAT).  He was also his Senior Class President, once qualified for Jeopardy! and did lots of other nerdy stuff, which he will tell you about if you ask.  Before founding John Kennedy Bailey Law, John:

• Worked as a Teamster washing dishes in the Yale University Dining Halls
• Worked for Congressman Nick Rahall in Washington between College & Law School
• Worked for Hawkins Delafield & Wood, 67 Wall Street, New York, NY as a summer associate
• Worked for the Charleston firm of Goodwin & Goodwin, LLP from 1995 to 1998
• Worked on the Gubernatorial Campaign of his Father, Larrie Bailey, in 1996
• Served as a Personal Law Clerk to Hon. Warren R. McGraw, Justice of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, from 1999 to 2004
• Assisted Justice McGraw in Drafting More than 50 Signed Opinions & reviewed half of all opinions issued by the court in that time
• Worked for James F. Humphreys & Associates, L.C., a leading WV Plaintiffs' firm

Other Accomplishments
West Virginia's Second Congressional District voted John to be one of the three male delegates to attend the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Currently, John tries to stay active in state and local politics in Charleston, where he lives with his wife and three children, who are his greatest accomplishments by far. He is also a proud board member of Charleston's Little League Baseball team, and involved in other community activities.
